A physical therapist and friend of mine once told me: you can’t undo 8 hours of sitting with a 30 minute to hour long work out. You just can’t! Repeated over days, months, and years - your body will start to feel the effects. Whether that manifests as stiff joints, back pain, or something else, your body keeps the score! SO it’s super important to get up out of your set and do some movement. Our bodies were not built to sit all day.

While getting 10K steps is just an arbitrary number, it’s helpful to have a reference point or a goal each day to ensure you’re moving!

How walking impacts your health

Walking or simply moving throughout the day is so important for your health. It helps regulate your metabolism by stabilizing your glucose responses, keeps your muscles and core engaged as you take each step, and supports cardiovascular health. The best part - walking is free! Put on a podcast, call a friend or family member, and just get up and MOVE!

How to incorporate more movement during the day

  • Take a few 20 minute walks throughout the work day

    • Block your calendar, clear you head, get outside for some fresh air

    • Take your phone, open the reminder app and use it as a brainstorming session.

    • It’s a great way to think critically without being distracted by the endless emails, messages, or slacks.

  • Invest in a walking pad
